What’s Better Electricity or Propane?

Looking at a house in Fairbanks in Alaska, where it is 9 cents a kwatt. all appliances are 120 vac (ie: dryer, hot water tank heater, fridge, etc.) Except the oil furnace. Would it be wise to change the hot water heater and dryer to propane? Or would I be better off getting a wind mill and some solar panels? From an indoor air quality standpoint, electricity is better than unvented combustion. From an environmental standpoint, […]

Does B100 Replace HHO?

I’ve read about WVO requiring mods to feed and burn properly but what about B100 ? Can it not just replace HHO liter for liter? Second question: seems the Becket burner is the most popular for this type of application. Am I wrong? Yes, B100 can replace HHO. But, there are “mixed reviews” on burning B100 without a minor modification. Some members have stated that they have had no problems putting biodiesel in the oil […]

What is a Good Blend of Waste oil to Diesel Fuel?

I was wondering if anyone found a good ratio of waste oil (engine, transmition, and gear oil) to diesel fuel (#2 or #1 diesel)? Is it dependable as igniting like a regular fuel oil furnace? I have an old sears regular fuel oil furnace and have been starting it on diesel fuel and switching it over to waste oil once running.Have to bleed out the waste oil until I get pure diesel to get it lit again. WVO in a Forced Air Gas furnace?

Has anyone modified a GAS furnace to burn wvo? I’m not talking about converting from gas to wvo, but adding a wvo burner. My gas furnace is 25 years old, is NOT high efficiency and has a metal flue leading to a metal lined chimney. Is it possible to do something like this: 1. Run steel tube (or copper?), perhaps 1/8” ID over the pilot of the gas burner, or possibly just over the gas […]

Trying to Figure out Safe Home Heating with Alt Fuels

I am interested in burning either filtered waste vege oil or biodiesel for residential home heating. I have done a lot of searching, and found a bunch of people asking similar questions – but no real answers. I THINK the consensus I’ve seen is that there are no official UL certified residential oil furnaces that can burn waste vege oil or biodiesel (if I’m wrong, please correct). But even if not UL certified, are there […]

Running Boiler on Heated WVO Questions?

Is it possible to run a beckett oil burner on heated WVO? I’m thinking of heating the oil with a water heater getting it up to temp. That way I may be able to avoid using a compressor on the burner. I would like to run my existing burner without getting crazy with the compressed air. Does this sound possible? Heat the oil to 160 degrees with the water heater. Maybe hotter. Devise a fuel […]

Wood Burning Water Heater to WMO Water Heater

I have an out door wood burning water heater that heats water to heat the house and also provides hot water for showers etc. Cutting and spliting wood has gotten old. I would like to convert it to burn waste motor oil. I like the method that I see Eric is using for the burner. I contacted Jesse to get some nozzles on the way when the subject of nozzle size came up. The fire […]

What do you think of Ruud furnaces?

What do you think of Ruud furnaces? My Carrier gas furnace is 26 years old and am thinking of replacing it. Are the new furnaces really that efficient that it would save me a lot of money or not? I live in Iowa..so we can really have some cold winters. — A lot depends on what model vs what brand of furnace you get. My dad did HVAC for a few years and he saw […]

Is there a site that shows manuals and pics for many brands of smoke?

I just realized that one of my smoke detectors has probably not had its battery replaced for a very long time. When I went to separate the face plate from the base that attaches to the ceiling I could not do it. I could not see or feel any tabs. The unit seems to be hanging from the ceiling by one screw. I don’t want to force anything. This unit has been in place for […]
