I am finishing my basement, and am pretty much finished with my suspended ceiling. I left one of my tiles off where the existing Hardwired Smoke Detector is sitting. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to attach this Smoke Detector to the grid or panel of my ceiling. I’m sure I can throw a piece of wood on the panel, and zip some screws up through the panel into that wood, and then install the Smoke Detector on that. But being a Hardwired smoke detector, is this up to Code? I would kind of assume that you need to somehow secure the detector to the grid, but I can’t for the life of me figure this one out.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated…

How about a piece of 2×4, or 2×6 with a groove cut in it to stradle the grid, then the detector could be screwed through the tile into the wood block effectively clamping the grid between the detector and the wood block? Of course this would require you work from the next tile over.

Go to your local electrical supply house and they will sell you the box, clamps and attachment bar for installation in a “T” bar ceiling.
