Had a problem the last few days…the water coming from my main rainwater tank developed a strong offensive smell… it smelled like Oily Fish… I looked inside the tank and it was greenish and very murky… I couldn’t see over an inch deep… I had used this water inside the trailer for my filtered water tank… so the carbon filter did its job, and I was somewhat protected…  When this main tank is full, the excess water drains into a 30 gallon runoff tank ( my run-off tank a new,30 gallon plastic garbage container hat I use to water the plants)…. and believe it or not, the water in the 30 gallon tank was clear with only a tiny bit of sediment at the bottom…

The source of the contamination is a mystery… well, maybe… I live in a high crime area, and six weeks ago, at 1 AM in the morning, while I was sleeping,  someone threw a concrete block through my trailer’s window. The next day, I bought some .22 Long Rifle bullets for my rifle… so, since robberies and break-ins have become common in this area, then the contaminated water incident could be explained by someone pouring something into my rain water tank. I have since drained the tank, washed it out, and will rehook it tomorrow…

I have hooked up to the 30 gallon tank for the week for my personal water, (I only use about a gallon of water a day for my water filter for drinking… I also use another gallon a day for washing dishes), so I am not hurting… and it rained hard this morning, so my 30 gallon tank is topped off… It should rain again on Sunday, so I hope to have the 305 gallon tank up and running…

I have moved the 305 gallon rainwater tank closer to the trailer and will probably, soon, get a second 305 gallon tank for a backup, and fix it so that I could switch from one tank to another if I need to do this.

Oh, as a further security measure, yesterday, at Lowes Hardware store, I bought a security porchlight for my trailer… I will have to get somes mounting screws tomorrow (Saturday), and maybe have it hooked up tomorrow or Sunday… the light will come on when someone gets within 30 feet of the trailer… I an anxiously waiting for it to be mounted and turned on to see how well it works… It can be programmed to stay on full time, since there is a sun sensor on the fixture that turns the light off during the day; it comes on automatically when the sun sets… and… when triggered, it can be programed to come on for 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 10, minutes… Two of these lamps can also be hooked up so that one sensor will trigger both lights…

Around here water storage tanks have covers to protect them from critters both two legged and four legged.? And security lights should also have unbreakable covers so evil people cannot shoot or throw a rock to break the light.? Also recommend the Radio Shack camera set up that you can hook up to an old tv with a DVD to record what’s going on when you are gone or sleeping.? Also as odd as it sounds I like the ideas a friend uses, where she has weight sensitive mats around her yard the let her know is someone is near her place and don’t belong there.? And she has taught me to spread sand around the hen house door to get prints of whatever is trying to get in at night?[/a]
