I’m not sure but I think I have a spider or two residing above my ceiling beams in a three-season room. The problem is that whatever it is drops fine black stuff onto the rug below. I’ve tried Raid Ant and Roach killer which says it also works for spiders but I’m still getting the black stuff. Any ideas?

I’d be checking for possible termites. Brick homes are especially pron to termite invasion and they show up in the most unexpected places. Sometimes the only damage is when they eat the roof off the dwelling of reduce beams and moldings to a mere shell of paper thin finish. Termites love to migrate between the brick facings and the walls using that space to get up to the attic or roof area where they are not detect until it
is way too late.
